Want a great introduction to the highlights of Palma de Mallorca? Looking to learn about the cities history, culture, architecture and stories but off the usual tourist trails? Well, you’ve come to the right place! Our tours uncover all the must see highlights but also take you far from the maddening crowds into the parts of Palma much less seen.
We’ll meet you in the city center, by the castle-like La Lonja, a former merchants guild responsible for overseeing trade and the nearby port. From here we walk to the “Gardens of the King”, the “S’Hort del Rei”, past water fountains and orange trees, and arrive at the gates of the irresistible cathedral.
The Cathedral of Palma (La Seu to the locals) is the undisputed jewel of the city-and for good reason! Its dripping in history and demands both attention and a sore neck! Inside is equally impressive and with us you a enjoy fast track entry to skip the queues. It boasts the largest Gothic rose window in the world, designs by Antoni Gaudi and it is the resting place of two Mallorcan Kings.
But Palma is so much more than its Cathedral and historic buildings! The Old Town is also full of secrets just waiting to be explored. Fortunately, our local guides are experts in all things Palma and will take you to discover the labyrinth of backstreets hidden beyond the Cathedral. Here we uncover the long and varied history of the Jewish quarter and learn a little bit more about the Roman and Muslim influences upon the City.
We wind our way back for a visit to the Town Hall and one of the most important squares in Palma. This spot is full of architectural details, hidden stories and unmissable sights-such as the 4000 year old olive tree or the hiding giants who live inside the Town Hall…
Finally we stop in the Mercat del Olivar, Palma’s bustling central market, to quench thirsts and rest legs. The market is famous for its most traditional of Mallorcan products (think Sobrasada and local cheese) and here there will be a chance to shop for souvenirs should you wish. We finish with a small tapa and a glass of wine or beer, and all that’s left to do is relax with your group, chat with the locals, and reflect on a perfect tour!
Don’t forget, our guides are there for you every step of the way and at the end are able to send you in the right direction, provide you with further recommendations, a good restaurant for lunch or a bar to relax in!
